Doug Franke is a practicing US CPA and the Managing Director of SustainAbility Solutions Africa (SSA), a specialist consulting firm that assists international and local donors, foundations and their recipients with financial management, compliance, SustainAbility, strengthening and special purpose audits. Prior to founding SSA he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for 25 years serving 12 years as the International Development Aid Partner in Southern Africa. His financial management consulting experience has extended world-wide, having been Project Director and Chief of Party on numerous engagements throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and the U.S. His clients have included private and public sector entities including USAID, DFID, CDC, RNE, SIDA, The Global Fund, CIDA, the World Bank, OECF, Norwegian Red Cross, and JAIDO as well as individual governments.

Mr Franke started working with USAID regulations and policies & procedures over 31 years ago when performing work for USAID Cairo. Since then he has served in many roles which have reinforced the various US Government regulations including OMB A122, OMB A21, FAR 31.2, 22 CFR 226, 45 CFR 74, ADS 302, ADS 303, ADS 591, the Mandatory Standard Provisions for Non-US Non-Governmental Organizations, OMB A133, HHS/CDC Grants Policy Statement, MCC Cost Principles, GAO Yellow Book, etc.

During his 25 year career at Price Waterhouse and then PwC, he served as a USAID audit Senior, Manager, Partner and then Southern Africa Regional Partner for US Government audits.

Since founding SustainAbility Solutions Africa in 2006 Mr Franke has conducted over 150 training courses for thousands of USAID- and CDC-recipient financial and technical staff across Africa, Europe and throughout the Middle East. He also conducts the special AICPA/GAO 2011 Revised Yellow Book Government Auditing Standards course for Big 4 and regional USAID, MCA and CDC auditors across the world.

Mr Franke served as President from 2009-2011 and continues to sit on the board of the American Chamber of Commerce of South Africa (11th year). He served two years as Vice Chairman of the South African Institute of Directors (IOD) Sustainable Development Committee. He served as Chairman of the Board of one of South Africa’s largest USAID-funded NGO ART providers, for two years. He is the Managing Partner of a Michigan-based Public Accounting firm which focuses on performing US Government Yellow Book audits and training for overseas aid recipients. He is a member of the National Grants Management Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
